As a way of appreciating God for preserving his life to witness another year and in recognition of the role teachers played in his life, Comrade Lateef ‘Arizona’ Sholanke, on Tuesday, December 12,2017,organised free medical tests and drugs distribution for the teaching and non-teaching staff in three schools in Ikorodu.
The event, which featured Health talk, free medical checks, free diabetes test, free HIV test and free drugs distribution, was in the commemoration of his birtrhday.
The programme was tagged, ‘A Date With My Teachers’ and held within the premises of the Holy Trinity/Anglican and Muslim B Primary Schools. It also witnessed a high turnout of teachers from the three schools.
Also benefiting from the free health programme were the celebrant’s friends and several residents of Anibaba area in Ikorodu.
Speaking with THE IMPACT, the celebrant stated that the free medical programme was his own little way of giving back to the society that made him.
“The idea of the free medical programme was conceived by me and my wife as our way of celebrating my birthday by giving back to the society”.
“I believe that in life, we should always think about giving back to the society, and on the occasion of my birthday, my wife and I agreed to visit the primary school I attended and celebrate with the Teachers there”.
“ It is an avenue for me to celebrate my teachers for their positive impact on me while in the school for my primary education. It is important for everyone in our society to learn to put a smile on people’s faces by contributing to the society one way or the other” , Sholanke stated.
One of the beneficiaries and a teacher, Olusegun Simeon Taiwo, said that, “It is a good initiative that the programme is brought to our school because teachers are not often privileged to go to the General Hospital for medical checks due to our busy shedule and time constraint. I want to thank the initiator for organising this programme for us”.
Rasheed Adedeji Fatuga, Chief Administartor of Ikorodu Ambassadors Group, commended Arizona for being actively involved in community services and encouraged other youths to emulate his good gesture.
“The celebrant is a wonderful person, very vibrant, and courageous. He’s been actively involved in community services throughout his life and for today’s occasion; I think it’s a very good idea that I will emulate”, Fatuga stated.
“I want to implore our youths to emulate this kind of gesture. It is a good project and it is a way through which we can give back to the society. It’s not about politics alone, there are several other ways we can impact our community positively so that it can become a better place” , Comrade Fatuga advised.
